Focusing is based on the research and observations of Dr Eugene Gendlin of the University of Chicago into the way those clients who benefit most from counseling and therapy pay attention to their feelings. Dr Gendlin devised a step by step method to teach this natural mode of awareness, which developed into a self-help system. It is a close cousin of the person-centred approach begun by Carl Rogers with whom Gendlin was a colleague for many years.

The Power Of Focusing: Finding Your Inner Voice. Ann Weiser Cornell
"Focusing"--defined as a body-oriented process of self-awareness and emotional healing--is employed today by thousands of psychotherapists with their patients. This book, the first to make the methods of this treatment accessible to laypersons, outlines in friendly, nontechnical language how to effectively use focusing to address a variety of issues.
